Spotted: the cast of Crew Girl with clear eyes and full hearts—so they can’t lose.
Before the Netflix series officially hit the platform Sept. 10, its stars shared insight into why the series is being likened to a Gossip Girl meets Friday Night Lights drama—with its own spin.
“It’s upper class,” Kyle Clark, who plays Easton Prep scholarship student Cam Dillinger, told E! News’ Erin Lim Rhodes in an exclusive interview alongside his castmates. “Everyone is from richer backgrounds and that being clashed with a sports drama, I think that’s where that collaboration takes place.”
Beyond just the sports element, Miku Martineau, who plays titular crew girl Teagan Tao, noted that the Netflix series has some FNL elements when it comes to “the family dynamics, the pressure.”

“I think rowing is the really new aspect that we’re bringing,” Martineau posited, “Rowing is a sport that involves so much emotion and so much tension and respect and communication. All of those things are great qualities of a coming of age story.”
