The “Fast & Furious” TV series, first revealed to be in development earlier this year at the NBCUniversal upfronts, is closer to reality. Peacock announced Thursday that it has greenlit a new scripted television series based on the franchise.
Vin Diesel, who revealed that a “Fast & Furious” scripted series was in development during the upfront presentation in May, is an executive producer along with One Race’s Sam Vincent (One Race), Original Film’s Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty, and Jeff Kirschenbaum and Chris Morgan Productions’ Chris Morgan.
According to Peacock, the streamer is looking to premiere the “Fast & Furious” series by 2028.
Premiere would coincide with the next film installment, “Fast Forever,” which has been slated to hit theaters on March 17, 2028.
Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.
Previously in TV, Netflix aired the animated series “Fast & Furious Spy Racers” for six seasons between 2019 and 2021.
In case you’re one of the few out there who doesn’t know what the “Fast & Furious” franchise is about, here’s NBCU’s explainer: “This year marks the 25th anniversary of the launch of one of the most iconic film franchises in cinema history. On June 22, 2001, Universal Pictures released “The Fast and the Furious,” a high-octane thriller set amid the street-racing culture of Los Angeles. The film — starring Vin Diesel as Dominic Toretto, Paul Walker as Brian O’Conner, Jordana Brewster as Mia and Michelle Rodriguez as Letty — would ignite a cultural phenomenon.”
