Sony’s superhero blockbuster “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” held the top position at the U.K. and Ireland box office for a fifth consecutive weekend, generating £2.7 million ($3.7 million).
The film has collected $125.5 million after 27 days on release.
“Insidious: Out of the Further,” distributed by Sony, secured third place in its sophomore frame, collecting $1.8 million to lift its cume to $6.6 million. Altitude’s live-action animation hybrid “Coyote vs. Acme” claimed fourth position in its second frame with $1.4 million.
Warner Bros.’ 25th anniversary re-issue of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” landed in seventh place, taking $707,194 over the frame. Paramount’s “Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie” placed eighth in its fourth week with $687,476, moving its total to $7.3 million.
In specialized release, Mubi’s “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma,” directed by Jane Schoenbrun, delivered a resilient second weekend, generating $186,113 across the Friday-to-Sunday frame and $248,459 across the full four-day bank holiday weekend. That performance propelled the film’s cumulative gross to $981,195. The release registered a slim 39% drop, achieving the joint-best hold of any wide or saturation release from the prior session alongside “Insidious: Out of the Further.” Light House Cinema in Dublin ranked as the top-grossing site for the title, followed by Glasgow Film Theatre, Picturehouse Central, Rio Dalston, and Curzon Soho, with the Ritzy Cinema in Brixton registering a 3% increase over its launch weekend. The theatrical run continues with 35mm presentations at Watershed Bristol and Everyman’s Screen on the Green. Beyond the U.K. and Ireland, Mubi has rolled the picture out across North America, Latin America, Italy, Germany, and Austria.
The weekend concludes with Disney re-releasing “Cars” for its 20th anniversary on Saturday Sept. 5, before Dogwoof debuts sports documentary “Lomu” on Sept. 7 across more than 100 locations.
