“Green Room” writer and director Jeremy Saulnier paid tribute to late actor Patrick Stewart, who starred in the film and whom he credits with saving the day when they were “close to shutting down,” during a 10th-anniversary screening of the 2015 film in Los Angeles on Friday. Stewart died one day earlier, on Thursday, at 86.
Then, “Patrick Stewart, out of the blue, sort of expressed interest in the project,” said Saulnier. “And in a whirlwind about a week later, I was on the phone with him. I left the stage, ‘Maybe we’re gonna have to break down the sets and shut the whole movie down.’
Stewart died after a brief battle with Alzheimer’s and Lewy Body Dementia, according to a statement on his Instagram account. He was best known for his roles as Captain Jean-Luc Picard on “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and as Professor Charles Xavier in the “X-Men” films, among many other film and TV credits.
